The Real Way To Train Your New Dog

Aggressive behaviors, excessive barking and general disobedience are annoying to a dog owner. These bad habits can be changed. If you have not trained these traits out of your dog, use these tips to correct this behavior. You will not find a better pet than a canine, but proper training is a must.

It is very easy to teach a pooch to roll over as long as you have some tasty treats on hand. First, place your dog in the down position. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog’s head and move it around it’s face to the other side. His nose will follow the treat, naturally making him roll over. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Put your frustration aside and he’ll be performing this trick all over the place in no time.

When training dogs, use a similar tone and volume when you give commands. These tones let your dog know that you are serious. It will also help him distinguish between a disciplinary tone, which is sharper, and a commanding tone.

If you want to be successful in house training an animal, make sure that you stick to a strict schedule for feeding times and elimination times. This can train your dog to whine or come get you when he feels the urge, so you can let him out and prevent him from doing his business inside. Having a set schedule will teach your dog how to wait until he can go outside for the next potty break.

The first step in your puppy training would be to teach him his name. This will create a nice bond between the two of you. Using his name frequently will teach him to respond when called. Your puppy’s name should be one of its first words learned. Spend plenty of quality time with them, so that they know that they can trust you. This will help them become more receptive to harder training later.

Be firm with your dog when training, for its own sake. That said, love should prevail and yelling should never occur. This approach helps to reinforce your relationship with the animal.

In order to decrease barking, stay around the offending item. It might be something they hear or being exposed to people. This will help your dog understand that barking is unnecessary.

Silence your dog’s excessive barking by teaching them a silencing command. Every time he barks, tell them the silent order and then treat him. Then, you can reward it with a treat. If you do this a lot of times your dog will know if they are not barking they will get a treat.

Grooming Needs

A good training tip is to be aware of the special grooming needs of your dog’s breed. Attention to your dogs grooming needs, whether it’s a weekly thing, as some breeds require or less frequently, gives you time to build a good relationship with your dog. Grooming is a good way to keep a clean, happy dog which can also provide health benefits.

When you’re consistent with your dog, they’ll be better able to hold off on their urge to eliminate. When at home, keep your dog close and let him outside each hour. If you dog uses the bathroom outside, praise him. If your dog has an accident in the home, do not scold him. He doesn’t know better yet and punishment would serve no purpose. Take your dog out soon after meals and after coming out of the crate.

The important part of canine training is to have the right information and understand that it is not impossible.
